If wish to apply for La Trobe University Research Higher Degree program, you must first make contact with a potential supervisor/s who would be interested in supervising your proposed research topic. Please note if the university cannot offer appropriate supervision for your topic then your application will not be process.

When contacting a supervisor I recommend you to write a brief email introducing yourself, your background and your proposed topic. Please include the following information: - University academic transcripts and completion certificates
- Your professional CV outlining relevant work experience, academic awards, prior research background or any other relevant information.
- Details of any publications
- A copy of your master’s thesis (if in English)
- A research proposal (no more than 300 words)
Once a suitable supervisor is available and interested in supervising your research topic, your next step will be to submit a formal application to La Trobe International via LTIResearch@latrobe.edu.au. When you submit your application please include the following documents/Information: - A completed application form [attached]
- University academic transcripts and completion certificates
- Your professional CV outlining relevant work experience, academic awards, prior research background etc.
- Details of any publications
- A copy of your master’s thesis (if in English)
- Evidence of academic English proficiency: IELTS/TOEFL/PTE/etc. [optional]
- A research proposal (no more than 500 words)
- 2 Confidential academic referee reports
If you wish to apply for LTU research scholarships, please indicate this by ticking the appropriate boxes in the scholarship information section on page 2 of the application form. Please note LTU scholarship applications for 2014 close by 30th of September 2013, therefore if you wish to be included you must submit your application as soon as possible. also note the LTU research scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic merit and are very competitive, students must have a minimum of H1 subject average. If you do not have a minimum H1 average it will be unlikely that you would receive an LTU Research Scholarship. For further information about LTU research scholarships please refer to http://www.latrobe.edu.au/international/fees/scholarships/research. All international applicants to Australian universities must demonstrate evidence of academic English proficiency. In most cases this is in the form of a one day exam like an IELTS/TOEFL/PTE or a multi-week ELICOS English course. This evidence must be undertaken less than 2 years before the course start date and will be assessed as part of your candidature assessment.
The 2 confidential academic referee reports need to be completed by academic referees and submitted directly the La Trobe International by post, email or fax [addresses below]. These reports must be completed on the attached form, generic letters of recommendation will not be accepted.
