WHAT TO BRING/DO: ESSENTIAL
• shower shoes (flip flops?) also for beach. Shoes are required in college dining room
• dress clothes – There will be at least one formal and one semi formal per session. Females wear long or short evening dress or pants; males wear shirt & tie
• national dress” (if you have one) for International Dinner"
• umbrella or rain gear – it usually rains in late February!
• personal toiletries. Many international brands of shampoos, deodorants contact lens solution are available but bring a small supply until you are sure you can purchase what you prefer.
• prescriptions - Some pharmacy/drug store items freely available abroad can require prescriptions in Australia. If you take regular medication of some sort bring additional supplies with you
• if you are bringing a laptop computer (or any other electrical appliance, such as CD player, curling iron etc), if it is not designed for 220 volt use (as in Australia) check in the manual whether it will convert for a 220 volt power source; the converter plug (the part that goes into the wall socket) costs about A$16 in Australia and may be best to buy here
• battery operated alarm clock (if electric it will need to operate on 220 volts and need a converter plug)
• camera – they are expensive to buy in Australia
• cold weather clothing – it can get to 10 degrees Celsius (35-40 degrees Fahrenheit)at night
• contact numbers for emergencies – banks, doctors, lost credit cards
• consider adding a parent to your credit card account – that way if there is trouble they will be able to act on your behalf at the bank at home
• mending kit :needles, thread, buttons, safety pins, etc
