The Val O'Donoghue Scholarship in Electrical and Electronic Engineering within the area of Optical and Semiconductor Devices
Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering
The scholarship is for a student studying towards a PhD in Electrical and Electronic Engineering within the area of Optical and Semiconductor Devices, who is of British or Irish nationality. The scholarship is for the duration of the entire PhD course (four years). The studentship is in the general research area of micro- and nano-fabrication technology.
The Optical and Semiconductor Devices Group has a broad range of research interests, in micro-electro-mechanical systems, optical and microwave devices, semiconductor physics, and nanoelectronic devices. Details of the group and examples of current projects can be found on the group website, http://www3.imperial.ac.uk/opticalandsemidev.
The Scholarship will provide an annual payment sufficient to cover the tuition fees and to provide a contribution to living expenses, initially at £14,940 per year. The opening is suitable for British or Irish Nationals students with an honours degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline. A strong background in microelectronic engineering or semiconductor physics, and good laboratory skills, are expected.
To apply, please send a CV, any relevant publications, the names of two referees and a covering letter explaining your current interests and relevant background to: Susan Brace, OSD Group Administrator, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Imperial College London, South Kensington Campus, London SW7 2AZ, U.K (email s.brace@imperial.ac.uk). We also encourage discussion of possible projects by e-mail, to Professor Richard Syms, Head of Group (email r.syms@imperial.ac.uk).
