It is ambition of this project to develop a precision injection moulding model system based both on process-related characteristics and dimensional and surface micro features characteristics of the moulded components
The monitoring and control of the moulding process and moulded products will be active at three different levels:
Process metrology from machine data and mould sensors;
Product geometrical metrology by tactile and optical measurements;
Product surface metrology by tactile and optical measurements;
The moulding process will be calibrated building a correlation between machine data, sensor data, and dimensions/surface measurements on moulded products and on the injection Tool.
The research will encompass an integration of expertise in a number of different key fields such as process technology and polymer material science, process control and monitoring, statistical process control, process simulation, dimensional and surface metrology, image processing.
Qualifications
M.Sc. in mechanical engineering or equivalent
Experience in the field of dimensional metrology and measuring technology
Good knowledge and experience with the injection moulding process
Knowledge about statistical quality control methods (e.g. statistical process control, design of experiment)
Ability to work independently, to plan and carry out complicated tasks, and to be a part of a large, dynamic group
Good communication skills in English, both written and spoken
Approval and Enrolment
The scholarships for the PhD degree are subject to academic approval, and the candidates will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes of DTU. For information about the general requirements for enrolment and the general planning of the scholarship studies, please see the DTU PhD Guide.
