We are looking for one Ph.D student and one postdoctoral research for a project which is funded by funded by Singapore Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) and focuses on synthesizing, characterizing, modeling, and simulating the thermo-mechanical behavior of polymers with covalent adaptable networks (CANs), e.g. vitrimers.
The PhD student will be supported by the SUTD-NUS Joint PhD programme, registered with both NUS (National University of Singapore) and SUTD (Singapore University of Technology and Design), guided by academic staff from both universities and examined to the standards of both universities. Upon successful completion of the SUTD-NUS Joint PhD programme, the PhD student will be conferred a PhD degree awarded jointly by SUTD and NUS.
PhD student can contribute to one or more of the key areas of the program - synthesis, characterization, modelling, and simulating – and will be expected to interact closely with colleagues in other areas at SUTD and NUS. The PhD student will be advised by Prof. Martin Dunn and Prof. Kevin Ge Qi at SUTD, and Prof. Shailendra P. Joshi from NUS.
We seek a post-doctoral candidate who will lead the synthesis and characterization of CAN polymers and studying their reprocessing and recycling behavior. This will include synthesizing materials and fabricating samples, characterizing them using standard analysis techniques, developing new test approaches and instruments to characterize the behavior of bonded and reprocessed samples.
An ideal candidate must have demonstrated expertise in the characterization of advanced materials (ideally, polymers) using relevant experimental techniques. Desired skills include demonstrated experience synthesizing polymers, material property characterization. The selected person will be expected to interact closely with colleagues at NUS on theory and modeling and simulation approaches for CAN polymers.
The candidates must possess a PhD in Materials Science, Mechanical engineering, civil engineering or related fields with strong written skills (demonstrated in the form of publications in reputed journals) and oral communication.
Salary and benefits will be commensurate with educational qualifications and work experience. If you are interested, please contact Prof. Qi (Kevin) Ge (
ge_qi@sutd.edu.sg) for detailed information.
