PhD position: Thermocline thermal storage system with filler materials for concentrated solar plants, PROMES, FranceStudy Subject(s):Thermocline thermal storage system with filler materials for concentrated solar plants
Course Level:PhD
Scholarship Provider: European Commission
Scholarship can be taken at: France
Eligibility:
We are looking for a highly motivated and determined candidate, willing to work independently, whilst integrated into a larger group effort.
Required skills:
- thermal science, thermal process, material science
- numerical simulation (FLUENT, COMSOL, …)
- process engineering – high level in English
- basics in French would be an asset
Education: Master in engineering/materials (or related) sciences or equivalent degree.Scholarship Open for International Students: NoScholarship Description: The laboratory of Process, Materials and Solar Energy (PROMES) is opening a PhD candidate position. The position is funded by the European Commission. The candidate will work on a very attractive European multidisciplinary research project entitled “Optimization of a thermal energy storage system with integrated steam generator”, including more than 10 partners, in different European countries. The role of Promes laboratory in the European project is to work on the thermal simulation of a thermocline tank with filler materials. Thermal and chemical characterization of different association MS/filler materials will be investigated. Different vitrified wastes, identified as potential filler materials, will be cycled in presence of MS at high temperature. The chemical compatibility of the couple MS/filler materials at high temperature will be studied as well as the different thermo physical properties. Candidate will also develop a simulation tool able to predict the thermocline tank performance with filler materials as regards to the nature of filler materials and its geometry. The thermal dynamic behavior of the thermocline tank (storage capacity, discharging power, …) will be investigated and optimized with respect to the thermo physical properties of the filler materials (heat capacity, conductivity,…) and to the structure of the solid phase in the tank (geometry, porosity,…). The candidate will benefit from an attractive scientific environment. The candidate will participate in meetings with the European partners (CIEMAT, Fraunhofer, Weizmann, CEA,…) and should be able to present his work in international conferences specialized in solar energy (Solarpaces, Sollab,…)How to Apply: Applicants should send a complete CV (publications-recommendations), to: quentin.falcoz-at-promes.cnrs.frScholarship Application Deadline: Contact Employer
