We have an open position, available from 1st April 2019 for an initial fixed-term of 3 years, for a
SENIOR RESEARCHER IN LCA (POST-DOC or PhD-candidate) Full Time (40 hours/week)
We are seeking a highly motivated and ambitious candidate with a strong background in Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) to undertake hands-on research in Sustainable Construction and the environmental impacts of the built environment. The position is open as either post-doc or PhD-candidate; in the latter case, we provide the opportunity to pursue a PhD within the course of this position.

Duties and Responsibilities
• Engagement in Sustainable Construction and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) research activities;
• Involvement in conception and development of innovative services and policies towards low-carbon cities;
• Scientific publications on LCA methods and application for Sustainable Construction.
The focus of this position is on the HERMES project (Urban Europe – China) in which your tasks will be:
• Compilation of a long-term dynamic inventory of urban road energy consumption;
• Establishment of a life cycle model and assessment of environmental emissions using LCA;
• Development of a multi-criteria evaluation method for selecting the best available technology and strategy with the lowest cost for the environment and society (in cooperation with international partners).
Required skills and experience
• University degree (MSc. or PhD) in Environmental Engineering, Transport Engineering, Civil Engineering (or similar disciplines);
• PhD is preferable. If the candidate does not hold a PhD, at minimum one year of experience in the field are required as well as sound background in LCA methodology and related tools/software;
• Independent, self-responsible and well-structured working style;
• Teamwork-oriented and enjoyment of inter- and transdisciplinary cooperation;
• Very good communication skills as well as proficiency in written and spoken English language;
Knowledge of German language is not mandatory but appreciated.

Job Grading in Accordance with Collective Bargaining Agreement: B1 lit.b (project senior scientist/post-doc) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade. The gross salary amounts to a minimum of € 3711,10/month, 14x per year. B1 basis (PhD-candidate) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade. The gross salary for this position amounts to a minimum of € 2794,60/month, 14x per year).
