Description
Twice a year the International Max Planck Research School for Global Biogeochemical Cycles accepts applications for PhD stipends.


The educational program of the IMPRS consists of a series of obligatory requirements, skills courses, a topical seminar and at least one elective course that is special to the student’s interests. In addition, students will be required to make a three month foreign research visit. The elective course(s) may include offerings such as special summer research schools or offerings at outside Universities and must be approved by the executive committee.


In the course of the three-year doctoral program, a minimum of 20 credit points (CP) has to be achieved as detailed in the IMPRS agreement.


Eligibility
Applications for the program are open to well-motivated and highly-qualified students from all countries. A prerequisite is a diploma or master of science degree in geophysical sciences, environmental sciences, biological sciences, physics, chemistry, computer sciences or related fields, including a corresponding thesis. Proficiency in English is required since English is the official language of the program.

Fellowships:


Type I (only PhD, master's degree required): contracts for the most qualified applicants, renewable on an annual basis for a maximum of 3 years (approx. 13.700€). Applicants with their own funding or candidates with external fellowships are welcomed.


Type II (integrated MSc+ PhD): We offer a limited number of study grants for the most qualified applicants.
- 1st year: 3.000€ (approx.) for tuition fees + 4.000€ for living expenses + up to 2.000€ for moving expenses once the candidate has been accepted to the doctoral programme.
- 2nd to 4th year: the same amount as Type I (approx. 13.700€)

2 PhD positions in graphene research at the Department of Chemistry, University of Copenhagen

The Department of Chemistry and the Nano-Science Center at the University of Copenhagen have a number of PhD scholarships available in graphene materials. The positions are part of current activities concerning the use of graphene in new products and processes related to coatings, composites and printed electronics. In particular, the successful candidates will develop graphene-based materials and conducting inks for printed electronic applications. The research involves experimental design, material synthesis and characterization, device fabrication, data acquisition and analysis, as well as scientific writing. The work will be conducted in close contact with other Danish academic and industrial partners, and the candidates will be central in maintaining a strong collaboration with these. The Nano-Science Center at KU brings together researchers from the areas of chemistry, physics, biotechnology and medicine in a strong cross-disciplinary environment. Combined with close ties to the international research community and cooperation with private companies, these features make the Center a strong base for science of international excellence. The candidate The candidate must have strong background in experimental chemistry, nanoscience or materials science at the master´s level. The successful applicant will enroll as a PhD student at the University of Copenhagen, Department of Chemistry. The PhD program, in addition to the project work, comprises participation in courses or international PhD schools and some activity as teaching assistant at the Department of Chemistry. Terms of employment The position is for a three year period and expected to lead to a PhD degree at the University of Copenhagen. Salary, pension and terms of employment are in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Academics Central organization. The salary depends on seniority, as agreed between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Currently, starting salaries are about 25,000 DKK (EURO 3,330) per month for PhD students - plus full benefits including pension.
