Chulalongkorn University The Petroleum Geoscience Program at Chulalongkorn University invites applicants for one (1): PH.D. Scholarship in Petroleum Geoscience The Scholarship The scholarship can be used for any Ph.D. program worldwide that is approved by the Chulalongkorn Petroleum Geoscience Program. Eligible areas of study are: Reservoir Geology, Well Log Analysis, Petrophysics, Clastic Sedimentology and Carbonate Sedimentology. Institute of Petroleum Engineering Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, UK Phd Studentships in 4D Seismic and Reservoir Engineering April 2012 There are vacancies for three PhD students to work within the industry-sponsored Edinburgh Time-Lapse Project (ETLP), based at the Heriot-Watt Institute of Petroleum Engineering in the UK. This consortium is now approaching its fifth three-year phase, which continues the development of new techniques for the quantitative interpretation of 4D seismic data via integration with reservoir engineering and geology. The following studentships are on offer: Studentship S1 In this research you will combine geomechanical principles with pressure diffusion to understand the role of reservoir-related shales in determining the 4D seismic response. You will build reservoir models for a range of fields, and assess the implications of shales for production and recovery. Specific skills in the following areas are an advantage: mechanics, geology, seismic interpretation, reservoir engineering. Studentship S2 Your research will continue our investigations into injected and evolved gas from the reservoir, and its quantitative evaluation using 4D seismic data. Specific skills in the following areas are required: PVT properties, rock properties, seismic interpretation. Studentship S3 This work extends the development of our methods for simulator to seismic modeling. It will use our existing tools to investigate how to match the predicted to the observed dynamic data. Particular emphasis will be placed on the balance between the rock physics calibration and the simulation model updating. Specific skills in the following areas are required: history matching, fluid flow simulation, seismic modelling. Note that all of the above projects are based on industry datasets donated by our sponsoring companies. General qualifications required An essential requirement is that you have an excellent undergraduate degree (first class or upper second at minimum) in Geoscience, Geology, Geophysics, Physics, Applied Mathematics or Petroleum Engineering, and preferably but not necessarily an MSc from a recognised high quality university. You should be self-motivated, enthusiastic, with good written and oral communication skills. We are particularly interested in candidates with strong computational skills. Several years of experience working in a relevant area inside the oil industry is desirable but not essential. Applicants not fulfilling these criteria will be rejected automatically. Our PhD studentships A PhD degree in the UK is normally of three years duration. In IPE-HWU, students are expected to undertake an MPhil in year 1 and then progress onto their PhD in years 2 and 3 should their work be of satisfactory quality. The studentship pays for all tuition fees and the living allowance for these three years. In addition, funding is available to cover travel and expenses to conferences and meetings with sponsoring companies and some select major conferences. The research will therefore focus on the kinetics of the underpinning polymerization reactions as well as reactor modeling of the outcome of polymerization processes. Additionally, the position entails organisational duties in the research group as well as didactic tasks such as assisting in student (laboratory) excercises or supervising bachelor and master thesis projects
