RESEARCHER TEMPORARY


At the University of Bergen, Department of Biomedicine, there is a temporary position available as Researcher in the project ”Development of anti-cancer drug candidate using biosynthetic and chemical engineering” from January 1st 2010 until March 31st 2012. The position is financed by the Norwegian Research Council. The researcher will be associated with the Translational Signaling Group.
The project involves the testing of novel anticancer drug candidates from marine microorganisms (provided by partners in Trondheim) for ability to eradicate leukemic cells in vitro and in selected intact organism models of leukemia. The project aims also at elucidating the action mechanism of successful drug candidates.
The successful applicant must hold a Ph.D. or have similar qualifications in cell biology, molecular biology or a related discipline. The candidate is expected to have experience with or be willing to rapidly learn techniques allowing:
- culturing of leukemia cells and assessment of their proliferation and death type
- stable retroviral transfection of leukemia cells
- advanced fluorescence immune-microscopy of cells
- relevant rodent experiments
- gene array and/or proteomics experiments on leukemia cells and their analysis
The candidate should be able to work independently and interactively in a team setting and be proficient in spoken and written English.

Salary level 57 (code 1109 on the government salary scale, NOK 438 700 pr year, before tax)
