The Vision Science group in collaboration with interdisciplinary Photonics Laboratories at the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) is seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate to pursue a project on using the latest advancements in digital technology to develop a portable ocular imaging device. The incumbent will be exposed to a range of challenges including design (hardware), programming and trialing the end product. The ideal candidate would have (i) experience in common programming languages such as Matlab, Python, C++, java (ii) understands concepts of Java programing, (iii) acute understanding of the biological questions being addressed by the supervisors; (iv) experience with optics; and (iv) experience and desire to disseminate the image analysis know-how through workshops, collaboration, and international consortia. The PhD candidate is expected to innovate novel image analysis methods when the need arises, and share the methods through peer-reviewed publications and open source channels. This position will suit a candidate with a background in computer science, software engineering, medical imaging, physics or related field.
