Masters of Advanced Minimally-Invasive Surgery (MIS)

This MS programme is focused, practical-based, highly innovative and hands-on mixing the cutting edge of VR and SoMe with advanced practical training and telementoring in robotics and laparoscopy from some of the world’s most renowned expert surgeons. This degree incorporates latest technologies that will place students at the forefront of modern surgical training.
The only MS programme of its kind in the world

Functieomschrijving


Je opleiding mede zelf vormgeven bij een koploper in patiëntgerichte zorg.
Wij hebben plaats voor een ambitieuze arts die zich in vijf jaar wil specialiseren tot radiotherapeut. Je wordt voor het grootste deel opgeleid binnen de afdeling Radiotherapie van het Radboudumc. Een afdeling waar, naast topklinische patiëntenzorg, internationaal erkend wetenschappelijk onderzoek wordt verricht. Bijvoorbeeld op het gebied van radiobiologie. Daarnaast volg je tijdens de opleiding een aantal externe stages: Zo ben je gedurende 2 maal een half jaar werkzaam bij de Radiotherapiegroep Arnhem, heb je een klinische stage en een vrije/wetenschappelijke stage.

We leiden modern op. We vinden het belangrijk dat je echt alles uit jezelf haalt en op jouw manier maximaal bijdraagt aan de beste en meest innovatieve patiëntenzorg. De exacte invulling van je opleiding bepalen we dan ook samen met jou. Bovendien geven we je alle ruimte om jezelf ook op andere gebieden te ontplooien, zoals in management of onderwijs. En het doen van hoogwaardig wetenschappelijk (promotie)onderzoek op diverse terreinen stimuleren we in de breedste zin. Ook daarvoor kunnen we je veel mogelijkheden bieden.

Profiel

Artsen met gevoel voor de technische aspecten van het vak die gaan voor de beste patiëntenzorg
Je bent iemand met oprechte interesse in het specialisme radiotherapie en je wilt hierin uitblinken. Dat je daarvoor goed moet kunnen werken met geavanceerde medische apparatuur is voor jou vanzelfsprekend. Maar jouw echte ambitie is om elke dag weer de allerbeste persoongerichte zorg aan patiënten te geven. En de zorg daar waar mogelijk verder te verbeteren. Daarin kun je prima zelfstandig functioneren, maar je werkt ook graag met anderen samen. Niet voor niets beschik je over uitzonderlijk goede sociale en communicatieve vaardigheden.

Verder heb je:

• een universitaire studie geneeskunde afgerond
• het liefst al ervaring met patiëntenzorg en met onderzoek binnen de radiotherapie, de chirurgie of binnen de interne geneeskunde
• affiniteit met beeldvorming/techniek en oncologie

Organisatie


Werken bij een afdeling met een centrale rol in de regio en een internationale naam
De afdeling Radiotherapie levert topklinische zorg voor een grote regio. Veel oncologische patiënten die elders niet (meer) behandeld kunnen worden bezoeken het Radboudumc. Bovendien vervullen we een sleutelrol in het integraal Kankercentrum Nederland Regio Oost. We werken elke dag aan innovaties en nieuwe behandelmethoden om de zorg binnen ons vakgebied verder te verbeteren. Daartoe verrichten we doorlopend internationaal erkend wetenschappelijk onderzoek en zijn we als instituut actief betrokken bij nationale en internationale onderzoeksprogramma’s.

Naast de 10 AIOS die bij ons in opleiding zijn, werken op de afdeling Radiotherapie radiotherapeuten, klinisch fysici, radiotherapeutisch laboranten, radiobiologen en diverse ondersteunende disciplines nauw met elkaar samen.

Functieomschrijving



Wegens vertrek van een van onze internist-oncologen is er per 1 juni 2017 een vacature voor een internist-oncoloog die een belangrijke taak zal hebben bij de behandeling van patiënten met een melanoom. Zowel ervaren oncologen als “jonge klaren” worden uitgenodigd te reageren.

Patiëntenzorg
Je bent verantwoordelijk voor het aandachtsgebied Melanomen en andere algemene taken binnen de afdeling Medische Oncologie. Je superviseert fellows, een verpleegkundig specialist en casemanagers en je biedt uiteraard poliklinische zorg. Waar nodig heb je zelf het spoedsein. Je woont de overdracht van de Interne Specialismen bij, participeert in het dienstrooster en in de verschillende MDO’s.

Onderzoek
Je bevordert inclusie van patiënten in trials en verbetert de kwaliteit van studies voor het deel dat op de afdeling loopt.

Onderwijs
Je bent onderdeel van het opleidingsteam en draagt bij aan het onderwijs aan en de supervisie van aios en co-assistenten. Incidenteel participeer je in het onderwijs aan geneeskundestudenten.

Profiel


Je bent een internist-oncoloog met hart voor academische patiëntenzorg en onderzoek. Je bent communicatief vaardig, flexibel, nauwkeurig, betrouwbaar en efficiënt. Het strekt tot de aanbeveling als je gepromoveerd bent of met een bijna afgerond promotietraject bezig bent. Maar ook als je nog met een promotietraject wilt starten bestaan daar mogelijkheden voor.

Organisatie


De afdeling Medische Oncologie is onderdeel van het Radboud Centrum voor Oncologie. Multidisciplinair werken staat hier hoog in het vaandel. Dit geldt zowel voor de patiëntenzorg als de research. De verpleegafdeling, dagbehandeling en polikliniek zijn geïntegreerd om een goede stroomlijning in de behandeling voor onze patiënten te waarborgen. Er is extra aandacht voor adolescenten en jong volwassenen (AYA) met kanker, maar ook voor ouderen oncologie. Ingebed in patiëntenzorg vindt vroeg klinisch onderzoek, alsmede farmacologisch, pathologisch, genetisch en imaging gestuurd onderzoek plaats. Er is een nauwe relatie met het Laboratorium Tumorimmunologie.

Binnen de afdeling Medische Oncologie zijn momenteel 14 stafleden werkzaam (deels part-time verbonden aan onze afdeling). Enthousiaste en betrokken fellows, arts-onderzoekers en studenten dragen bij aan het onderwijs- en opleidingsklimaat van de afdeling.

Het Radboudumc streeft naar excellentie in alle academische taken, maar streeft er ook naar om de patiënt een belangrijke stem in het behandelteam te geven. Samenwerking binnen netwerken en partnerships zijn actuele Radboud thema’s om een optimale organisatie van oncologische zorg duurzaam vorm te kunnen geven.

PhD studentship in Investigation into the impact and effect of systemic iron deficiency, and iron repletion, on skeletal muscle function

Vacancy Information

The work will involve the mechanistic role of iron and its function in tissues. Iron has two important functions: assisting in the manufacture of blood cells to transport oxygen, as well as providing key ingredients in the cellular ‘power house’ (mitochondria) that uses oxygen to generate energy for muscles. New intravenous (IV) iron treatments are available, enabling full treatment in a single infusion. IV iron is known to be efficacious for correcting iron deficiency with or without anaemia, but we do not know if overall fitness and skeletal muscle function is improved. Furthermore, we do not know the mechanism of how ID, anaemia or treatments thereof may impact iron repletion on tissues.
Studentship Description

The project will combine behavioural studies, confocal examination of mitochondrial function and trafficking in peripheral nerves and skeletal muscle, and biochemical examination of mitochondrial function in pre-clinical models with different types/degrees of iron deficiency. The effects of different types of iron therapy will be assessed, to inform clinical trials planned in patients with ID, providing mechanistic insight to ongoing clinical trials of intravenous iron therapy in differing patient populations (preoperative PREVENTT, cardiac CAVIAR, and critical care/ICU - IRONMAN). The findings will enable translational work to address what disease (ID with or without anaemia etc.) to screen for, and the impact of iron repletion on overall functional recovery and rehabilitation in the post-operative patient.
Person Specification

•A good (First or Upper Second Class Bachelor’s) degree in a biomedical or pharmacological subjects (or equivalent EU/overseas degree), and ideally an MSc in a related area.
•An interest in iron deficiency, anaemia and mitochondrial biochemistry, and a desire to learn more.
•Strong analytical/statistical skills.
•Enthusiastic, organised with good communication skills - especially in written English.
•A strong work ethic, with the ability to think creatively and work independently.
•Develop pre-clinical models of iron deficiency and anaemia under the direction of Professor Toby Richards and Dr Anna Butcher.
•Prepare progress reports on research as required.
•Prepare manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals.
•Prepare presentations, including text and images, for delivery by self and others.
•Travel for training, collaboration and other meetings or conferences.
•Contribute to the overall activities of the research team and department as required.
•Maintain an awareness and observation of Fire and Health and Safety Regulations at UCL and other facilities to be visited. Actively follow UCL policies including Equal Opportunities and Race Equality policies.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Institute of Orthopedics and Musculoskeletal Science (IOMS) is based on the Royal National Orthopedic Hospital Trust (RNOHT) site in Stanmore. The IOMS has an international reputation for translational research in Orthopaedics, has used its scientific base to develop implants and treatment strategies for complex orthopaedic conditions that are aligned with the interests of the RNOH.
We are seeking a highly motivated Researcher with an interest in bone and cartilage tissue engineering with some previous experience in cellular and molecular biology. The successful applicant would be based in the Institute of Orthopaedics and Musculoskeletal Science of UCL at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital Stanmore.
This post is available from 01 April 2017 and is initially funded until 31 March 2019.
Key Requirements

The postholder must have a PhD in a relevant discipline or have substantial relevant experience. Research experience in a relevant discipline, experience within a laboratory environment investigating the in vitro and in vivo cellular response of biomaterials and experience in study of human tissue explants are all essential. The postholder must have the ability to work under pressure, to tight deadlines, be able to prioritise work and proven problem solving skills, have good interpersonal skills and be able to liaise with staff and students at all levels effectively and have good writing skills for scientific reports and publications.
