    Research and teaching assistant position (PhD track) in Sustainable Finance at the University of Namur





    Academic environmentThe University of Namur welcomes near 7.000 students every year to its 60 bachelor, master, and doctoral study programs. Of the University’s 1.200 employees, more than 700 actively contribute to research, through 64 research laboratories and centers. The Faculty of economics, social sciences and business administration accounts for near 1400 students and 170 staff members, among whom 85 academic and 70 scientific members. The Faculty offers full-time and part-time bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in management and economics. It also organises programs in political sciences and communication studies. Its members undertake research in various fields of expertise.
    The candidate will be part of the Department of Business Administration. The Department of Business Administration has 60 full- and part-time academic and research staff. The Department offers bachelor, master, and doctoral programs, with a particular focus on topics in finance, services management, marketing, and information and operations management. Research is organized through five research centers, and concentrates on the said topics. The Department actively collaborates with many national and international institutions and companies, through research projects, seminars, consultancy and student internships.The Center for Research in Finance and Management (CeReFiM), one of the components of the DeFIPP Research Institute (Development, Finance & Public Policies), stands as one of the centers associated with the Department of Business Administration. CeReFiM's research is mainly empirical and revolves around a wide range of topics covering, among others, financial econometrics (e.g., volatility, systemic risk, contagion), central banking (communication policies, monetary policy transmission), macrofinance (fiscal policy, DSGE models), corporate finance (venture capital, private equity) and more recently sustainable finance (impact investing, micro-finance). The center includes 8 academics and 7 PhD students. The dynamism of the center has materialized in recent years through several publications in leading journals such as the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, the Journal of Banking and Finance or the Journal of Economic Dynamics and Control and through the organization of leading seminars in partnership with the various Belgian universities and the National Bank of Belgium. Job descriptionThe position mainly involves teaching and research duties. Teaching (in the field of finance, in a broad sense) will be carried out within the Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes. Research (approximately 50% of the work time associated with the position) will be undertaken in finance within the CeReFiM research center. The candidate will also participate to community service tasks and in particular to a thinking group on the impact of Transition on management practice in general and in the field of finance in particular. Requirements
    The applicant holds or will hold by the end of June 2018 (or by the end of September 2018 with in that case a starting date on October 1st, 2018) a Master’s degree in Business Administration, Management or in Economics (or equivalent), and is expected to have excelled in his/her curriculum (degree obtained with honours). S/he has a good command of spoken and written French and English. S/he must display excellent teaching skills. S/he wants and is able to develop an original research programme likely to lead to a doctoral degree in Economics and Management supervised by a member of the Department of Business Administration.     Job description


    We are looking for a doctoral student, project worker or a master’s thesis worker for the position. The open position is part of a two (2) year research project. The duration of the employment can be adjusted to somewhere between six (6) months and two (2) years, depending on the role of the person in the project. Overall, the project provides a fruitful basis for empirical data collection for doctoral studies.

    The project offers a possibility to conduct research in cooperation with the partner companies. The company cases provide the possibility to research topics such as management accounting, advanced business analytics, management decision-making and customer value. The job requires sufficient skills in industrial management and management accounting.
    The person may start working as soon as possible, but the starting date will be agreed separately upon.


    Requirements

    The educational requirements for the position depend on the applicant’s status and interests. The requirement for a Doctoral student/Project worker position is a Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering and Management or similar field. The requirement for a Master’s thesis position is a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering and Management or similar field, as well as a position in the Master’s program at TUT. The position requires advanced Excel skills, and also experience with coding (e.g. Python) is appreciated. Minor or other studies in either signal processing or social sciences are also considered beneficial for the position. In addition, the applicant should be able to both advance the company cases together with the project team as well as independently advance their thesis or studies in the doctoral program.

    The Institute of Financial Analysis at the University of Neuchâtel is opening one funded PhD position in finance with a research focus on empirical asset pricing starting January 2019 or upon agreement.
    Your duties


    • Conduct research in empirical asset pricing with the aim to earn a PhD in finance.
    • Participate at academic conferences and publish your research.
    • Contribute to the teaching of classes and the administration.

    Your profile


    • Master in Finance, Economics, Statistics or a related field.
    • Very strong empirical / quantitative skills. Interest in textual analysis / big data is a plus.
    • Excellent command of English.
