We are looking for a full-time PhD researcher to conduct research in the field of “digital transformation of public services”. This research should lead to a PhD-degree.
PhD researcher in the field of Digital Transformation of Public ServicesThis research will be conducted by DEML in close collaboration with the Digital Transformation and Business Process Management team at Vlerick Business School and in collaboration with The Leuven Institute for Research on Information Systems (LIRIS) at
KU Leuven. These teams have a standing tradition in conducting applied research related to value creation with modern information technologies for contemporary private and public organizations. The Digital Transformation and Business Process Management team at Vlerick Business School prides itself on its expertise in conducting research for business and society in the areas of digital transformation, business model and services innovation, business and IT alignment, and business process management.

ProjectThe research will be conducted at the KU Leuven and the Royal Military Academy under a research grant of the Belgian Federal Government, under the guidance of Prof dr Stijn Viaene (KU Leuven) and Prof dr ir Jan Leysen (Royal Military Academy). It concerns the topic of “Innovative tendering using digital platforms and marketplaces”. You are expected to work closely with the business owner and team at the Federal Government responsible for innovating the tendering process for conducting research that is both relevant and rigorous. You are also expected to participate in academic seminars and conferences, and to enroll in the PhD program of the Faculty of Business and Economics at KU Leuven. You can also be asked to give guidance to students (e.g. by supervising their master's thesis) and to supervise exams.
Main tasks:
• Perform research activities in the frame of iLab
• Report the progress results
• Cooperate with other partners to assure a good progress and coherence of the project
• Report the obtained results at international conferences and write scientific papers
ProfileTechnical skills:
A Masters degree in General Management, in Commercial Engineering, or in Management Informatics, or in Information Management, or in Business Administration (MBA). Candidates have a strong, natural interest in understanding how to create organizational and societal value with digital technologies and information systems.
Personal aptitude:
Good communication and interpersonal skills are important. Excellent (honors-level) results in prior studies are required. Candidates master Dutch or French and are fluent in spoken and written English. Candidates have excellent writing skills.
Students currently in the final year of their Masters are certainly encouraged to apply.
Experience or other knowledge:
The candidate possesses a good knowledge of English (reading and writing of scientific publications). Knowledge of French or Dutch languages will be an advantage.
OfferEstimated date of recruitment : 1st of September 2017 or depending on the availability of the candidate.
• Status: open-ended contract with the patrimony of the Royal Military Academy (you will not be a civil servant).
