(Application deadline: Mar. 25, 2017)

The Laboratoire d'Informatique de Grenoble (LIG) and the Mathematical and Algorithmic Sciences Laboratory of Huawei Technologies in Paris offer a joint opening for two (2) Post-doctoral Research Fellows in the area of wireless and data network optimization.

One of the fellows will be hosted at LIG (Grenoble) while the other will be hosted at the Huawei facilities in Paris (Boulogne-Billancourt). The focus of these positions is to contribute theoretical breakthroughs on latency minimization for fifth generation (5G) mobile systems, using sophisticated mathematical tools from machine learning, online optimization, and stochastic control. The research will be carried out jointly between Huawei and Grenoble, and the fellows will have the opportunity to engage in close collaboration with several researchers from both labs.

Interested candidates are expected to have a strong mathematical background in 1) mathematical optimization, 2) online learning, and/or 3) probability theory, as well as being comfortable with telecommunications, and wireless networks. A solid research track record, and a desire for fundamental research are also required.

This is an opportunity to perform top-tier research in a fast-paced environment in close collaboration with leading experts from both academia and industry. The fellows will work on the high-impact area of 5G cellular communications, they will be given the opportunity to patent innovative ideas, and the envisioned research output is foreseen to affect the 5G standardization process.

Details on the position:
- The initial term of the appointment is for 12 months, with a possibility of extension beyond this initial period.
- In addition to a competitive salary and all standard benefits mandated by French law (social security, paid leave, etc.), the fellows will also have a separate travel budget (for conferences, etc.)

Applications must be submitted by March 25, 2017, to Panayotis Mertikopoulos (panayotis.mertikopoulos@imag.fr), Georgios Paschos (georgios.paschos@huawei.com) and Ioannis Steiakogiannakis (ioannis.steiakogiannakis@huawei.com), and should consist of a single pdf file including a cover letter explaining the applicant’s fit to the position, a detailed CV with a list of publications, a research statement, and the contact details of two/three referees.
