Information about the division
The division of Electric Power Engineering is looking for a PhD student in the theme of multilevel converters for vehicles.

The Electrical Power Engineering research group at Chalmers is heavily involved in research towards automotive applications, with the aim to reduce the environmental impact of transportation. The group is working in the whole span of the area of electric drive systems and with this project the activities regarding vehicle converters are strengthen.

Major responsibilities
We are now looking for a PhD Student in the theme of multilevel converter topology for vehicles. Power electronic design, including electrical as well as thermal and EMI considerations are the core part of this project. Inverters having 3 or more voltage levels are to be designed and compared to the classical two level inverter. Sic as well as GaN components are to be put in relation to classical Si-components. Power density and energy efficiency are important quantities to be investigated. The position comprises both theoretical modelling as well as practical experimental parts. A three-four month period at another university is a part of the project.
