You will join vibrant cancer research laboratory which is part of the North West Cancer Research Centre and the Institute of Translational Medicine at the University of Liverpool. You will interact with multi-disciplinary cancer research teams comprising academics, clinical researchers, postdoctoral fellows and technical staff engaged in performing fundamental and translational research important for the development of novel therapeutic strategies to fight cancer. Particularly, our team is studying how cancer cells interact and communicate with immune cells during tumour progression. You will be expected to perform in vitro assays and to contribute to pre-clinical in vivo tumour studies. Specifically, you will take part in research activities that include: using microscopy techniques to study patient and mouse model derived tissue samples, assess gene and protein expression by quantitative real time PCR and SDS-PAGE/Western blotting, respectively. You will also work closely together with a senior researcher of the team to critically contribute to pre-clinical mouse tumour studies, particularly using different in vivo imaging modalities to assess changes in tumour burden in response to treatments. We seek an excellent and highly motivated candidate to expand and strengthen our research programme in the field of tumour microenvironment und tumour inflammation. You should have a degree relevant research experience in one or more of the following fields: cancer biology, immunology, and/or cell biology. You will learn the necessary skills from senior researchers of the team to assure high quality training and you will weekly meet with your supervisor Dr Michael Schmid to discuss the findings and future directions of the project. It is expected that you will be an innovative individual with an interest in applying your research skills to a challenging project, and willing to learn new techniques. You are also expected to carry out lab management tasks. The post is available until 31 May 2021.

We wish to recruit a full-time postdoctoral research associate for 18 months. You will join Lancaster Medical School to work with Dr Jemma Kerns to explore the protein and gene expression of collagen, and their effect on the chemical and material properties on osteoarthritic bone.
The project addresses key components of the inherited evidence of osteoarthritis in bone and will direct future research for early diagnosis and the identification of therapeutic targets. There is potential to predict future likelihood of developing OA: improve diagnosis, treatment and quality of life for individuals with OA: hundreds of millions of people are affected worldwide, with an ageing population the prevalence is predicted to increase.
You must hold a PhD in a relevant subject area. The project will involve measuring collagen alpha chain expression using SDS-PAGE gel, measuring mRNA expression from COL1A1 and COL1A2, establishing baseline chemical information using Raman spectroscopy, and establishing material properties using atomic force microscopy and rheometric techniques.
This project is funded by an Academy of Medical Sciences Springboard grant. Participant identification and collection will be through collaboration with Dr George McLauchlan (Consultant Orthopaedic surgeon, Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust). The material property testing will be in conjunction with Dr David Cheneler in the Engineering Department.
You will join a top 10-UK university with excellent laboratory facilities and situated in a vibrant research environment. During the project you will also have the opportunity to engage with a world-leading consortium of bone researchers at University College London (Prof Goodship, Prof Birch), Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore and Prof Parker and Prof Matousek at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, STFC, Oxford.

We are seeking a PDRA to join us on an exciting project between the University of Reading, OrxaGrid Ltd and SCOPE, funded by Innovate UK, to improve the operation of electricity grids in the UK and India by augmenting OrxaGrid’s substation monitoring systems with innovative data science, forecasts and algorithms.
The researcher will be on the Innovate UK project ‘Transforming electricity access through smart sensors and grid efficiency algorithms’ to assist in the development of a unique interoperable gateway and add advanced data analysis techniques, and algorithms that improve grid efficiency by forecasting demand and renewable generation, predicting theft and technical outage locations and identifying spare capacities in the grid.
You will have:

• A post-graduate degree in a relevant specialism (e.g. in engineering, mathematics or physical sciences) or comparable attainment.
• Knowledge of methods and software tools for analysing large time-series datasets to determine trends and patterns.
• Knowledge of methods for performing cluster analysis of time-series datasets or equivalent methods for classifying data.
• Some knowledge of forecasting techniques based on historical time-series data i.e. persistence or rolling-window forecasts.
• A willingness to travel nationally and internationally. It is expected that the successful candidate will visit India at least once during the project.

The College wishes to recruit an Associate Research Fellow to participate in a JDRF funded collaborative research project that is investigating the phenotype of immune cells infiltrating the pancreas in type 1 diabetes. The project will employ immunocytochemical, molecular and cell biological approaches to study the phenotype of B-cells found in the insulitic lesions present in and around islets of Langerhans in pancreas samples available from people with type 1 diabetes. Use will also be made of islet microdissection techniques, RNA extraction, immunocytochemistry and molecular biology to identify the B-cell subtypes present in pancreas samples.

You will develop research objectives, projects and proposals; identify sources of research funding and contribute to the process of securing funds and make presentations at conferences and other events.

You will:
- possess a PhD or equivalent qualification/experience in a relevant field of study
- possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to develop research programmes and methodologies
- be able to work collaboratively, supervise the work of others and contribute fully to team goals
- have an excellent training including, ideally, experience in techniques relevant to molecular and cell biology, immunohistochemistry and/or confocal microscopy

Purpose of the Job

The post is part of a new team working in the area of developmental social neuroscience. Ultimately, the team will consist of two postdoctoral associates, two PhD students, the PI and a research support officer focused on participant recruitment and community engagement. This post will have considerable influence on the progression of the project.
There is considerable support within the grant for both conference travel and training opportunities for the post-holder and the successful applicant will be expected to attend various research events to present their work. As such, the post holder will be responsible for the planning, programming, conducting, analysing and publishing of a series of experimental studies, as well as liaising with external and internal/external partners, in collaboration with the rest of the team.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Designing and evaluating research questions and the methods/tasks to address those questions across both typical adult and both typical and atypical developmental populations
• Gathering and analysis of data
• Delivering research outcomes, including collaborating with co-researchers to write up the results in scientific articles, working with other team members to disseminate results, writing regular updates on progress to the project management group, presenting findings at international conferences, and assisting with writing final reports for the funding body.
• Administration of the research project. This might include: Participating in project meeting, coordinating team members to meet research aims and objectives, and liaising with stakeholders (external and internal).

Other Duties and Responsibilities

• Advising and collaborating with Undergraduate, Masters and PhD students working with the team
• The post holder will be expected to participate in performance review and developmental activities.
