The Neuromorphic Intelligent Computing Systems (NICS) group at The University of Oklahoma is located in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering. The team is directed by Prof. Yaser Banadaki, and works closely with three research centers at OU: Center for Quantum Research and Technology (CQRT), Data Institute for Societal Challenges (DISC), and new OU's Center for Optimal Materials for Emerging Technology.

The mission of the NICS is described by the US Nanotechnology-Inspired Grand Challenge for Future Computing: "Create a new type of computer that can proactively interpret and learn from data, solve unfamiliar problems using what it has learned, and operate with the energy efficiency of the human brain." The NICS aims to overcome the inherent challenges of current computing systems (memory and power walls) by inspiring the electrical activities of neurons and synapses and neural networks in the brain. Combining new technology advances in nanomaterials, new devices, and circuits, and computer systems and architectures, our goal is to design energy-efficient and high-speed computing-in-memory (CIM) circuits.

NICS has broad interests in the areas of artificial intelligence and neuromorphic computing across the full stack of materials, devices, circuits, systems, algorithms, and applications.

    • Devote significant and productive time toward degree completion including research publications, coursework, and degree exams.
    • Stay abreast of requirements and research findings for degree completion through active and regular discussions with her/his advisor.
    • Take ownership of academic progress, and research endeavors and duties in a conscientious and timely manner.
