دانشگاه های علمی کاربردی ( پلی تکنیک ها) کاملا در اروپا شناخته شده هستند و در فنلاند، حتی شبکه کاریابی، انجمن های دانشگاهی و امکانات مخصوص به خودشون رو دارند که دانشجویان University ها قادر به استفاده از اونها نیستند.
در این برنامه ای که من مشغول به انجامش هستم، ما برای ترم سوم به صورت اجباری باید یک ترم رو در بزرگترین و اینترنشنال ترین پلی تکنیک فنلاند انجام بدیم و بعد از اون حق انتخاب بین المان و فنلاند رو داریم. یک سری دوستان سال قبلی من، از همین طریق با بازار کار فنلاند اشنا شدند و اونجا موقعیت کار و یا دکترا پیدا کردند. علاوه بر این، چون در اروپا تحصیل میکنیم و بین دو کشور اروپایی جابه جایی داریم، دانشجوی Erasmus به حساب میام و کمک هزینه زندگی در فنلاند هم بهمون تعلق میگیره.

e universities of applied sciences (in Finnish abbreviated AMK, the term polytechnic is also frequently used) together with the universities form the Finnish higher education system. There are 27 universities of applied sciences of which 25 operate under the Ministry of Education and Culture. In addition, the Police College of Finland operates under the Ministry of Interior and the Åland university of applied sciences, which operates in the self-governing Åland province.
The grounds for creating the universities of applied sciences became from the needs to develop the Finnish education system. The universities of applied sciences aim to improve the quality of education and to response to the changes of the society and foremost the working life. The Finnish system of universities of applied sciences has taken example of the Dutch and German systems.
In creating the universities of applied sciences the Finnish higher education system became a dual system in which the two higher education sectors complete each other. The universities and the universities of applied sciences have different kinds of profiles and missions. The universities of applied sciences are mainly multidisciplinary and regional institution of higher education which focus on interacting with the working life and regional development. The universities of applied sciences provide education for Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, which are professionally oriented.

The mission of the universities of applied sciences is to provide professional higher education geared to the requirements and development of working life, to support one's professional development, and to carry out research and development that serves the education, the work life, regional development and industry and commerce of the region.
The universities of applied sciences provide an interesting alternative to higher education with a combination of theory and practice.
The universities of applied sciences are important regional factors and producers of labour force. The universities of applied sciences focus in their research and development activities to serve the development needs of their region.
The maintaining and the financing system of the universities of applied sciences
In the operating licenses issued by the government are determined the fields of study, the number of study places and the locations of operating units.
The universities of applied sciences are maintained by a local authority, a municipal consortium, an organisation or a foundation.
The maintaining organisations of the universities of applied sciences under the Ministry of Education and Culture are divided as follows:

The universities of applied sciences have autonomy in the internal matters. The board and the rector lead the administration. The board decides on the strategic developments and the action and economic plan. The maintaining organisation nominates the rector and the board.
The core funding for the universities of applied sciences comes from local authorities (58,11%) and the government (41,89%). The Ministry of Education and Culture also grants intakes and project funding for the development of operations and to certain expenditures common to all universities of applied sciences.
The steering system of the universities of applied sciences
In addition to the acts and decrees, the operation of the universities of applied sciences is governed by different programmes, plans and agreements.
The long term objectives concerning education politics are set in the Development Programme for Education and Research issued by the government.
In the Ministry of Education and Culture the division for the universities of applied sciences is responsible for preparing matters and steering administration. In the performance negotiations the universities of applied sciences, the maintaining organisations and division in the Ministry of Education and Culture agree on targets set for a three-year period. The targets and performance are widely dealt with in private negotiations and in different seminars open to all intrest and cooperation groups.
In the three-year performance and target agreements are agreed upon the mutual targets concerning all the universities of applied sciences as well as targets concerning an individual university of applied sciences. Also national and regional projects and their funding is agreed. In the negotiation process the most important cooperation bodies are also heard.
The universities of applied sciences are also evaluated by a performance-based criteria which includes a calculating and measurement system which is renewed every other year. The performance of the universities of applied sciences is also evaluated by the Finnish Higher Education Evaluation Council which designates the centres of excellence in education and the centres of excellence in regional impact
