PhD research fellowship position at Department of Electric Power Engineering, NTNU, Norway within the area “Energy conversion system for offshore wind parks based on direct high frequency AC links” At the department of Electric Power Engineering there is 1 vacant PhD research fellowship position within the area “Energy conversion system for offshore wind parks based on high frequency direct AC links”. The PhD position is within the project “Wind Energy Conversion using high frequency transformation and DC collection - Wind Generator-Converter-Transformer” that is focusing attention among other aspects on the design of the high frequency transformers for the implementation of a conversion system based on a direct AC-AC converter. The main work of the candidate for the vacant position will be on investigations oriented towards reduction of size and weight of the electrical conversion system for offshore wind park installations. Reliability and efficiency will at the same time be kept as targets when evaluating potential solutions. The starting point will be the exploitation of direct AC-AC power electronic conversion systems at high frequency for each wind turbine, with rectification into DC voltage for series connection in the internal collection grid of the Wind Park. The selected concept will be proved by simulation studies and selected lab tests that can prove the validity of the main concept. The overall system will be tested with respect to operational features required by the grid operators. The transmission of power to shore by high voltage DC will also be investigated with focus on analysing stability issues related to severe contingencies.
NTNU’s PhD-rules require a Master degree or equivalent with at least 5 years of studies and an average grade of A or B within a scale of A-E for passing grades (A best). Candidates from universities outside Norway are kindly requested to send a Diploma Supplement or a similar document, which describes in detail the study and grade system and the rights for further studies associated with the obtained degree: http://ec.europa.eu/education/polici...iploma_en.html
