Thank you for your inquiry.
As you know, because there is no U.S. diplomatic presence in Tehran, Iranian visa applicants are advised to apply at the U.S. embassies in Ankara or Yerevan, or at the consulate in Dubai. Actually, any applicant may apply for a U.S. visa at any visa-issuing post, but these three posts have designated officers who speak Farsi.
Due to extraordinary demand for U.S. visas by Iranians, business/tourist visa appointments for Iranian applicants routinely become unavailable within minutes of opening. We suspect – as you yourself noted – that there are third parties in Iran who take advantage of this high demand by seizing large blocks of appointments.
Please know that:
· Ankara, Yerevan, and Dubai are working in close coordination with the Bureau of Consular Affairs at the Department of State to increase workload capability;
· A strategy is being developed to counter third parties who trade in appointment slots; and
· Expedited appointment request procedures exist at all three of the posts for applicants with qualifying emergencies.
Once applicants schedule an interview appointment, Embassy staff and the interviewing Consular Officer will extend every courtesy and consideration under U.S. immigration law.
Thank you again for your inquiry, and we regret any frustration you’ve encountered in the visa application process.
