"Thank you for applying into a degree program at the Colorado School of Mines. While the program will review your application for admission consideration, you should be aware that on August 10, 2012, President Obama signed H.R. 1905, the Iran Threat Reduction and Syria Human Rights Act of 2012. Section 501 of this federal law "denies admission to, or excludes from, the United States an Iranian citizen seeking to enter the United States to study at an institution of higher education to prepare for a career in Iran's energy or nuclear sectors," according to the Congressional Research Service summary.
(a) In General- The Secretary of State shall deny a visa to, and the Secretary of Homeland Security shall exclude from the United States, any alien who is a citizen of Iran that the Secretary of State determines seeks to enter the United States to participate in coursework at an institution of higher education (as defined in section 101(a) of the Higher Education Act of 1965 (20 U.S.C. 1001(a))) to prepare the alien for a career in the energy sector of Iran or in nuclear science or nuclear engineering or a related field in Iran.
(b) Applicability- Subsection (a) applies with respect to visa applications filed on or after the date of the enactment of this Act.
As such, even if you were granted admission into a Mines degree program it is unlikely that you will be able to obtain a Visa to enter the United States to pursue your degree
program. We recommend that you plan accordingly."
