Scholarship Description : The Epilepsy Foundation awards grants and fellowships for cutting-edge research into the causes of epilepsy. Program goals include understanding basic mechanisms, developing new therapeutic approaches, understanding the behavioral and psychosocial aspects of having epilepsy, and encouraging the professional development of scientists and healthcare professionals. The purpose of the Pre-doctoral Research Training Fellowship is to support pre-doctoral students with dissertation research related to epilepsy. Graduate Fellowships are available in biomaterials science at Louisiana State University funded by the Louisiana Alliance for Simulation-Guided Materials Applications (LA-SiGMA). Students involved in this project will focus on the development of novel technologies and algorithms for the study of complex phenomena in biological systems with primary application in the design of next generation biomolecular materials, drug delivery systems and biopharmaceuticals.
Prospective candidates should have a background in computational biology, chemistry, physics, computer science or a related discipline. A solid knowledge of Linux, experience in high-performance computing, programming in C/C++, MPI, CUDA, etc. and excellent communication skills are highly desired. The successful candidates will join a lab toconduct biomedical imaging research. Active projects include the development ofdata acquisition, image reconstruction, and image analysis techniques inmultimodality imaging including PET/CT, SPECT/CT, and PET/MRI.


Applicants should have BS or MS degrees in electricalengineering, physics, medical physics or a closely related field.
