Based in the Institute of Software Technology and Interactive Systems, Vienna University of Technology, Austria, you will work on the EU funded project MobiGuide (http://www.mobiguide-project.eu/) concerning the development of an intelligent system to provide patients with chronic illnesses with adequate advice anytime and everywhere. You will carry out research involving the development of tools (conceptual, mathematical and computational) for extracting information from clinical practice guidelines.

You will work closely with other group and project members to develop novel methods within the domain of information extraction and machine learning. You will design, analyse, implement, test and evaluate new algorithms and integrate them in existing infrastructure.

You will be highly motivated and have a PhD or equivalent research experience in computer science or related areas, together with knowledge of NLP, Information Extraction and especially statistical machine learning methods, and medical terminology systems.

Ideally, you will also have a track record in applying theoretical results to develop real world systems and experience in medical informatics together with software engineering skill and programming experience in Java.

Contract: Fixed Term Contract (one year)
Salary: EUR 47,345 - EUR 52,092 (before taxes)

The Institute of Solid State Physics at the Graz University of Technology is seeking a University Assistant (equivalent to a non tenure-track Assistant Professor) who will complement our current activities. There are presently large projects running on organic semiconductors, metal-organic interfaces, X-ray structural characterization of thin organic films, organic solar cells, and paper strength.

We seek a candidate with a Ph.D. who will propose a complementary research program. Potential research directions include, but are not limited to: bio-electronics, the self-assembly of nano- to micro-sized objects, electronic devices on paper, adsorption of organic molecules on surfaces, electrical or optical properties of organic thin films, reactivity of surfaces with respect to heterogeneous catalysis, infra red reflection absorption spectroscopy (IRAS) of thin films on various substrates, or surface imaging (AFM, STM, SEM).

The candidate is expected to lead a small team of graduate students, publish in high quality peer reviewed journals, obtain external research funding, and to teach about 8 hours per week. Laboratory space and UHV chambers are available. There will be about EUR 30.000 available for investments in the first year.

For those planning to pursue an academic career in Austria or Germany, it will be possible to complete a Habilitation. The maximum duration of the position is 6 years.
