Azerbaijan’s non-residents begin receiving compensation on deposits in bankrupt Royal Bank
Baku, Fineko/abc.az. The Azerbaijan Deposit Insurance Fund (ADIF) started paying compensations to country’s non-residents who had deposits in Royal Bank (RB) OJSC, whose banking license was revoked on 13 July by the Central Bank of Azerbaijan, and which declared bankrupt on 25 July by the court.
The ADIF informs that for 35 days from the beginning of compensation payment (1 August 2012) 1,162 RB depositors received compensation in the amount of AZN 11.7 million. At that, 1,080 residents were paid AZN 8.3 million, $3.09 million and EUR 68,000. In turn, 82 non-residents of Azerbaijan received AZN 213,000, $781,000 and EUR 60,000.
Payment of compensations will last until 20 July 2013. According to ADIF estimates, 7,067 RB depositors will receive AZN 14.658 million. Compensation payments were carried out by Bank Respublika, Muğanbank and AG Bank, drawn by the Fund as agents.
Earlier up to 2,500 Iranian depositors of Royal Bank raised the question of the fate of their money and the fraud committed by RB together with payment systems Visa Inc and MasterCard.
