Media Informatics deals with the design, development, introduction and operation of information and communication technology systems for media production and distribution
Media comprises the traditional media like television, radio and the print media, on the one hand. But on the other hand, especially the Internet must be seen as a novel medium for communicating and doing business
Media informatics specialists will design, select, develop, introduce and operate systems with informatics-based methods and knowledge of business processes in the media industry. Some will probably also find their way into creative professions in the media industry, but this is not the goal of the course
However, media informatics specialists are not restricted to the media industry. Thanks to e-business many companies will use the Internet to do business. This includes images, sounds, videos, e.g. for presenting products or even video conferences in order to communicate directly with the customer via the Internet. The design, introduction, development and operation of such systems is also part of the Media Informatics course
