    EDUCATIONAL PSYCHOLOGY

Educational psychology is the study of how humans learn in educational settings, the effectiveness of educational interventions, the psychology of teaching, and the social psychology of schools as organizations. Educational psychology is concerned with how students learn and develop, often focusing on subgroups such as gifted children and those subject to specific disabilities. Researchers and theorists are likely to be identified in the US and Canada as educational psychologists, whereas practitioners in schools or school-related settings are identified as school psychologists. This distinction is, however, not made in the UK, where the generic term for practitioners is "educational psychologist."
Educational psychology can in part be understood through its relationship with other disciplines. It is informed primarily by psychology, bearing a relationship to that discipline analogous to the relationship between medicine and biology. Educational psychology in turn informs a wide range of specialties within educational studies, including instructional design, educational technology, curriculum development, organizational learning, special education and classroom management. Educational psychology both draws from and contributes to cognitive science and the learning sciences. In universities, departments of educational psychology are usually housed within faculties of education, possibly accounting for the lack of representation of educational psychology

    EDUCATIONAL PSYCHOLOGY

    Where they work
Local education authorities employ the majority of educational psychologists. They work in schools, colleges, nurseries and special units, primarily with teachers and parents. They regularly liaise with other professionals in education, health and social services. A growing number work as independent or private consultants.

The work of an educational psychologist can either be directly with a child (assessing progress, giving counselling) or indirectly (through their work with parents, teachers and other professionals).

Direct work involves some form of assessment to uncover a child’s problem through consultation with professional colleagues, observation, interview or use of test materials. Interventions might plan learning programmes and collaborative work with a teacher. Recommendations are then made to determine the most appropriate educational provision for that child. Indirect work requires consultation and careful discussion, as the psychologist's contribution needs to be seen as relevant to people who know little about psychology.

In their role within a local authority, educational psychologists are often called upon to advise or join working groups concerned with organization and policy planning. With their research background they are in an ideal and often unique position within the education authority to plan and carry out research activities

.Educational psychologists who work in k–12 school settings (closely related are school psychologists in the US and Canada) are trained at the master's and doctoral levels. In addition to conducting assessments, school psychologists provide services such as academic and behavioral intervention, counseling, teacher consultation, and crisis intervention. However, school psychologists are generally more individual-oriented towards students.

    FORENSIC PSYCHOLOGY

Forensic psychology is the intersection between psychology and the justice system. It involves understanding criminal law in the relevant jurisdictions in order to be able to interact appropriately with judges, attorneys and other legal professionals. An important aspect of forensic psychology is the ability to testify in court, reformulating psychological findings into the legal language of the courtroom, providing information to legal personnel in a way that can be understood.[1] Further, in order to be a credible witness, for example in the United States, the forensic psychologist must understand the philosophy, rules and standards of the American judicial system. Primary is an understanding of the adversarial system. There are also rules about hearsay evidence and most importantly, the exclusionary rule. Lack of a firm grasp of these procedures will result in the forensic psychologist losing credibility in the courtroom.[2] A forensic psychologist can be trained in clinical, social, organizational or any other branch of psychology.[3] In the United States, the salient issue is the designation by the court as an expert witness by training, experience or both by the judge. Generally, a forensic psychologist is designated as an expert in a particular jurisdiction. The number of jurisdictions in which a forensic psychologist qualifies as an expert increases with experience and reputation. Forensic neuropsychologists are generally asked to appear as expert witnesses in court to discuss cases that involve issues with the brain or brain damage. They also deal with issues of whether a person is legally competent enough to stand trial.
According to R.J. Gregory in Psychological Testing: History, Principles, and Application, the main roles of a psychologist in the court system are eight-fold:

    • Evaluation of possible malingering
    • Assessment of mental state for insanity plea
    • Competency to stand trial
    • Prediction of violence and assessment of risk
    • Evaluation of child custody in divorce
    • Assessment of personal injury
    • Interpretation of polygraph data
    • Specialized forensic personality assessment

    FORENSIC PSYCHOLOGY

    ?
What Does a Forensic Psychologist Do

It is hard to define the duties of a forensic psychologist because these professionals can work in so many areas of this career. Many forensic psychologists are called on as expert witnesses in court cases, where they have to provide testimony on the behalf of a case to help determine if a person is guilty or innocent. Forensic psychologists may also work with police officers to question and analyze suspected criminals before charges are filed. Forensic psychology may also be found in school systems, where psychologists analyze specific students to determine if they may come from abusive homes.
What you do as a forensic psychologist will depend on the place you work and the type of work you like to do. Regardless of the situation though, you will be working with other people in the criminal justice system to ensure that criminals receive the punishment or treatment they need.
Forensic psychologists are often involved in custody disputes, insurance claims and lawsuits. Some professionals work in family courts and offer psychotherapy services, perform child custody evaluations, investigate reports of child abuse and conduct visitation risk assessments.
Those working in the civil courts often assess competency, provide second opinions, and provide psychotherapy to crime victims. Professionals working in the criminal courts conduct evaluations of mental competency, work with child witnesses, and provide assessment of juvenile and adult offenders.

    FORENSIC PSYCHOLOGY

    ?
How much do forensic psychologists typically earn

Forensic psychologists make an average of $34,457 to $140,323 a year, according to PayScale.com. That reflects average base salary levels of $34,886 to $104,960, plus $197 to $39,453 in annual bonus money. These numbers encompass annual earnings for forensic psychologists across the nation, and they will likely raise in the future based on inflation. You will likely earn a salary on the lower end of that scale initially, but your earnings could double or triple over time

Factors that Influence Forensic Psychologist Salary Levels

The range for average forensic psychology salaries is rather expansive, so you may want to learn about the different factors that could influence your future pay level. Two thirds of forensic psychologists in the job force are women, but women tend to earn less money than men. The average salary for a female forensic psychologist is between $47,453 and $76,103. The same average for men is between $51,395 and $104,768. Women can make more money than men, but that does not always happen.
The amount of time you have worked in the field will make a big difference in the amount of money you earn. More experienced forensic psychologists tend to get requests for more work, and they get paid for their expertise. You may have to work for ten years in the field to make $100,000 a year or more, but after that, the high salary will come naturally.
The area of the country you work in will also have an impact on the amount of money you make as a forensic psychologist. The highest paying city in America is Washington, D.C., where salaries range from $60,000 to $245,659 a year. The second highest paying salary is Miami, Florida, where salaries range from $60,000 to $85,989 a year. Most of the Midwest has pay rates much lower than that, but the cost of living is lower in those areas as well. Thus the pay levels may balance out in the end.

    FORENSIC PSYCHOLOGY

?What type of degree do forensic psychologists need

Forensic psychologists need a doctoral degree in psychology, usually in clinical or counseling psychology. A number of schools such as the University of Arizona and the University of Virginia offer degrees specifically focused on forensic psychology that combine courses in both psychology and law. Such a degree typically takes 5 to 7 years of graduate study to complete and admission into doctoral programs is highly competitive.
After the appropriate education, training, and experience, forensic psychologist can apply for board certification. The American Board of Forensic Psychology offers professionals the opportunity to be certified as a Diplomat of Forensic Psychology.
While a forensic psychologist may find work in research with only a bachelor's degree, a Ph.D. or master's degree in psychology is required for licensing or certification. Licensing is essential for all practicing psychologists and can be obtained by taking examinations through the state psychologist licensing board. The American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP) classifies forensic psychology as a recognized specialty and offers certification examinations.
To become a forensic psychologist, it is beneficial to have a minor in law. Some forensic psychologists have doctorates in both psychology and law. Because the application of forensic psychology deals specifically with how psychology works with the law, most jobs require varying levels of legal studies. This is a relatively new facet of psychology and forensic psychologists are encouraged to participate in continuing education programs throughout their careers.
