**PhD Track**
The HUMASCEND PhD Track offers a unique opportunity for young researchers
to:
-Attend tutorials by leading experts in the field, Paolo Fiorini(University
of Verona, Italy) and Kenji Suzuki(University of Tsukuba, Japan)
-Participate in presentations and discussions
-Receive feedback on their current work and future research plans form
peers and experts
-Gain insights on the future of the field
-Attend the HUMASCEND Workshop without extra charge (must register to
assure seat)
**Workshop Description**
HUMASCEND aims to bring together researchers in all areas studying how to
use technology to enhance human capabilities. The conference focuses on
system aspects related to collaboration between humans and machines,
devices designed to enhance human capabilities, and cyborgs - hybrids of
living organisms and machines.
The Advanced Technologies for Enhanced Quality of Life (AT-EQUAL)
Series started in 2009 as a yearly forum of scientific events bringing
together engineers, life scientists, and medical doctors, to share their
knowledge and techniques, and to jointly seek advances that can increase
the quality of life. The HUMASCEND Workshop and the PhD Track are part of
AT-EQUAL 2013.
The three conference tracks are:
Human-Machine Systems: focusing on humans and machines in collaborative
relationships
Enhancing Devices: focusing on a next generation of prosthetics, designed
to enhance human capabilities
Cyborgs: focusing on true hybrids that fuse living tissue and artificial
structures.

**Submission Guidelines**
PhD Track: Two page extended abstract in IEEE Conference format showing
work in progress.
Workshop: Four-page regular papers in the standard IEEE Conference format
or two-page position papers are invited. Three reviewers will review each
paper.
