    Ph.D. in Behavioural- and Experimental Economics
    Department of Food and Resource Economics (IFRO), Faculty of Sciences at University of Copenhagen is offering a PhD scholarship commencing October 1st 2013 or soon thereafter. The application deadline is June 1st 2013.

    Project description
    Applications for a PhD fellowship (3 years) in Experimental Economics are invited. Our research group consists of economists investigating how incentives, rules and institutions can promote virtuous behaviour. Our aim is to conduct frontier research and to publish in top journals. In particular, the candidate will have the opportunity to conduct research on how health and environmentally motivated regulations impact behaviour and welfare using both lab and field experiments as well as natural data. Examples of on-going projects are: "how cooperation develops in PG games", "social preferences and variable tariffs in electricity consumption", ?the effect of peers and unethical behaviour and on social dilemmas", "incentives and nudges to promote waste sorting" and "the development of preferences in children". Of course, the candidate should develop her/his own research questions but in collaboration and under the supervision of our research group. For this reason, the candidate should include a description of her/his research interests and an outline of preliminary ideas. The candidate should also indicate how his/her research can fit in the research agenda of the supervisor(s).

    The ideal candidate should have:
    1)An excellent curriculum vitae and top grades. A Masters degree in Social Science/Economics is a requirement when the candidate will start his/her PhD but not at the moment of the application;
    2)A solid background in Economics and prior knowledge of Behavioral and Experimental Economics. In particular, the candidate should have attended courses on this topic and have a proven interest and eventually experience in this field;
    3)An open mind to conduct interdisciplinary research (on psychology, sociology, management, etc.) and a willingness to attend courses, conferences and visiting periods abroad. A prior international experience is a valuable asset.
    4)Familiarity with mathematical and statistical software (Matlab, Stata, etc.) and, more in general, IT skills;
    5)Last but not least, excellent organizational skills. The candidate should help the group to expand and collaborate with other researchers on the organization of seminars, workshops and conferences. The candidate may be required to organize and manage lab and field experiments in collaboration with other faculty. Again, prior experience is a valuable asset.

    PhD scholarship in Applied Development Economics
    Department of Food and Resource Economics, Faculty of Sciences at University of Copenhagen is offering a PhD scholarship commencing 1 September 2013 or soon thereafter. The application deadline is 1 June 2013.

    Project Description
    The PhD scholarship will form part of an overall research programme named "Changing Disasters", which is funded by the UCPH Excellence Programme for Interdisciplinary Research. The Changing Disasters research programme is organized in three clusters focusing on Imaginations, Interventions and Transformations. The PhD scholarship is expected to undertake applied quantitative research within the framework of "Transformations", which aims at analysing the effects of disasters on long-run transformations of societies and institutions, important for understanding economic development. In addition the PhD scholarship is expected to yield new insights into questions about how to design more efficient societal decision mechanisms in natural hazard management. In order to do so we need empirically to gain a more comprehensive picture on both short and long run impacts of disasters on economic welfare.

    Background
    Changing Disasters is an interdisciplinary research programme setting out to explore the relationship between disasters and societies. The aim of "Changing Disasters" is to investigate how the perpetual presence of real or virtual disasters gives shape to contemporary societies. As hybrid phenomena disasters cannot be explored without 360 degrees knowledge of the various dimensions of human life. The research project is therefore coordinated by researchers from all six faculties of the University of Copenhagen covering theology, law, cultural studies, anthropology, engineering and economics. Please visit the research programme´s webpagewww.jura.ku.dk/changingdisasters for further information.

    Qualifications
    The successful candidatemust hold a master´s degree in economics and must have strong knowledge of advanced econometrics. Moreover, it will be considered an asset if the candidate has experience within applied economic research. Relevant inter-disciplinary experience is also considered a qualification, and interest in interdisciplinary work a requirement. We expect applicants to be able to take active part in, and contribute to establishing, an international, interdisciplinary working environment, characterized by high performance standards, entrepreneurship, curiosity and dynamism.

    PhD scholarship within Consumption, Culture and Commerce

    university of southern denmark

    The Department of Marketing & Management invites applications for one or more 3-year positions as PhD Student in the research area of Consumption, Culture and Commerce. The positions are vacant from 1st September 2017 or soon after. The positions are located in Odense, but teaching may be required at the campuses in Slagelse and Sønderborg.

    Job description

    The research unit Consumption, Culture and Commerce is oriented toward the type of market research labeled Consumer Culture Theory (CCT), with particular interest in studying market transformations. We study changes in consumption and commercial practices, techno-material networks and meaning systems, and representational and ideological facets of marketing and consumption. The research currently is focused on three over-arching themes: consumption symbolism and practices, and market management in consumer culture; the intersection of globalization processes and local and global consumer cultures; and theory and critique of marketing thought from a socio-cultural perspective.

    Emergent research themes in the CCC group are technology and digitalization, so project proposals that apply a consumer culture perspective to this domain will be preferred.

    As part of the PhD programme, an individual education programme within the field of marketing and management has to be completed. The successful candidates will be expected to complete a six-month stay at a research institution abroad and, over the period of the programme, to acquire experience of teaching or other types of presentation. They will also be expected to participate in the various activities within the research unit and – apart from the stay abroad – to be present at the unit on a daily basis.

    Research within the Department is anchored in an understanding of the cooperation between markets, organizations and individuals. It encompasses a variety of areas from evolutionary models of organization to new exotic forms of consumption. It is the ambition of the Department to be in the international frontline in these areas and to seek synergy between research, teaching and knowledge dissemination. Research at the Department is organized in five research units. See the Department website for more details.

    Further information can be obtained from Head of Research Unit Professor MSO Dannie Kjeldgaard phone +45 65503228 or dkj@sam.sdu.dk.
