SOM, the graduate school and research institute of the Faculty of Economics and Business, has six PhD scholarships available.
Scholarship opportunities
The aim of SOM’s PhD programme is to deliver highly qualified researchers. For this purpose, SOM offers PhD scholarships to excellent candidates who recently graduated. The programme for this type of scholarships covers four years (or three for students with a research master background) and leads to a PhD degree. These four years are spent on courses, writing research papers for the PhD thesis and on participation in international conferences, workshops and a career perspectives curriculum.
The PhD programme is embedded in the research institute SOM. The PhD scholarships will be made available for projects within one of the seven signature areas of SOM, namely

Candidates are expected to contribute to the further development of the signature area and ideally contribute to the multidisciplinary nature of the SA’s.
All PhD candidates are supervised by at least two supervisors who are a fellow of SOM.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate is ambitious, highly motivated and wishes to make a career in research. He or she has a thorough training in research skills, speaks and writes English fluently and has obtained excellent results in the master phase. Candidates should have a Master degree in Economicsor Business. or a master degree sufficiently related to research within one of our signature areas.
Conditions
The University of Groningen offers scholarships for PhD students for a period of 4 years under the condition of a positive assessment at the end of the first year. The monthly allowance is comparable to the first-year salary of PhD candidates with an appointment. An assessment may be part of the procedure, consisting of psychological tests and an interview.
Starting date: 1 September 2017.

before 16 February 2017 Central European Time by means of the application form (click on "Apply" below on the advertisement on the university website).
The application package consists of the following separate documents:
1. Your cv and scan of your passport
2. A letter in which you discuss your motivation, the research area you are interested in and present an outline of a research proposal (max. 2 A4)
3. A scan of your diploma including transcripts
4. Proof of English proficiency
5. Other relevant documents.
The documents 1-4 are compulsory and please note that incomplete application packages will not be taken into account.
