1. Thank you for your interest and for sending your cv and statement. The subject of your proposed research is relevant to the research of our school. To proceed, we need a research proposal from you. I have copied this message to my colleague Mrs Marian Kyte, who can send you the necessary guidelines.
2. For you to be accepted for a PhD here at UCL you will need to submit a 6-page summary of the proposed PhD topic, which includes a definition of the research questions you propose to investigate, preliminary hypotheses outlining what you expect to test in your research, and an initial view of the methodology you think you will use. The summary should also provide evidence that you have some knowledge of the key literature in your topic. Your chosen topic seems interesting, but you need to develop it further to make it into a viable PhD research project – especially making it clearer what your key research questions are and how you intend to go about answering them.
I am copying this reply to Dr Stephen Marshall, who directs our PhD programme, and whom you could consult about details of our PhD programme and the application process
3.Thank you for your message, forwarded to me by my colleague, Professor Sir Peter Hall, regarding your intention to undertake graduate research into Community Planning here at UCL. you would be required to submit a formal application to the college in order to initiate the graduate research admissions process. Your application should include a research proposal (maximum 2,000 words)
outlining the subject of your proposed research, the questions you hope to answer, why you think this knowledge will be of value, your intended method and the sources you will use - further information about the method of application can be found at:
http://www.bartlett.ucl.ac.uk/gradua.../mphil_phd.htm
I attach a paper designed to help applicants produce a research proposal which I hope you will find of some use.
4. Thank you for your interest in our PhD programme. The attached document
contains details about the application process and guidelines on how to
develop a research proposal (a requirement for all research degree
applications). Information on funding sources is also included.
Your research interests do match research interests and activities in
our School and I'd encourage you to put in a formal application when
you're in a position to do so (this can be done online via:
