The Truth about Argentina Universities
La Universidad del Salvador (USAL)

With some buildings concentrated in the swanky barrio Recoleta and few scattered elsewhere in the capital, USAL is a private institution that hosts about 20,000 students and offers a wider range of liberal arts courses than Di Tella. IFSA likes to throw around the 1:6 teacher-student ratio, a very nice statistic. However, I have found the advisers for international students to be pretty useless. Mine took three days to respond to an email containing my “shopping list” of courses she herself had requested. She then kindly reminded me that I must have a very strong command of the Spanish language to take literature courses at USAL (but literary analysis in a foreign language sounds so easy!), and that I should try taking a class on Argentine Ethnography instead. I might have overlooked the condescension if the course she suggested hadn’t been in one of the only departments closed to foreign students.

La Universidad Católica Argentina (UCA)

UCA is also private, hosts about 15,000 students and has the most centralized campus of the Universities discussed. It’s located downtown inPuerto Madero by the Río de la Plata. The department offerings and class sizes are similar to USAL’s, but the University also has an exceptional music program. IFSA students can take advantage of seminars in the Latin American Studies department that are specifically designed for international students (read: easy A).
Jesus sculptures and other religious imagery are ubiquitous, and it doesn’t matter that it’s 90 degrees out and 200% humidity — come to class in shorts and havaianas and you’ll be in the next sweaty subte car home.

La Universidad de Buenos Aires (UBA)

Finally, a public university! And a good one too- it beats out all of the private institutions as the best Argentine university. So it’s basically UNC, right?
Totally, if UNC was completely free and had over 220,000 students. It might be over 250,000; or 300,000. It really depends where you look for your number, considering the government lost track a while back. And then there’s also the ridiculous frequency of political protests that prevent classes from happening regularly. And the lack of anything resembling a central campus. In short, the only thing that UNC and UBA have in common is a reputation for offering a prestigious public education.
IFSA students can choose from courses in a limited number of departments; including Philosophy, History, Art, Anthropology, Geography, Literature, and Social Sciences. Since the classes are so demanding, they are worth SIX credits on our U.S. transcript. I am hoping to take a seminar at UBA on the history of Argentine dance. This, of course, will depend on whether the professor decides to show up this week. In her defense, it was raining on the day of our first scheduled class

كورس زبان اسپانيايي 4 هفته اي در دانشگاه بوينوس آيرس با 1290 دلار!!!!:

NO SPANISH REQUIRED! Students in this program will be enrolled in a 4 week intensive Spanish language course, with the option of enrolling in consecutive courses to form 8 and 12 week programs. Courses are available for beginner to advanced level Spanish students and are held at the University Language Center where local Argentine students also attend classes in foreign languages. This program includes 3 hours of insturction daily from Monday through Friday as well as outings to places of cultural and historic interest in Buenos Aires. Average class size is 8-10 students.
