The Admissions Committee of the Faculty of Science in their meeting on
April 5, 2011 has decided that your application to the CBU Master's
Degree Programme in Information and Communications Technology cannot be
accepted for the reasons given below.
Academic record of the previous degree/studies
The CBU Master's Degree Programme in Information and Communications
Technology was extremely popular this year. There were 282 applicants
and only 6 of them were accepted. Thus, it was not possible to accept
even all very qualified and potential applicants. In the end, the lowest
accepted grade point average to University of Helsinki was 92%.
All applicants with grade point average less than 85% were not even
considered for the program this year. Also applicants with English
skills lower than the required academic level were dropped in the
beginning.
From the remaining 30 applicants the best 6 were accepted to University
of Helsinki. The selection was based on both the degree suitability,
grade point average and most importantly the motivation letter, which
needed to state very clearly that the student was aware of the specific
features of this particular program.

in Computer Science (Networking and Services, Algorithms and Machine
Learning) cannot be accepted for the reasons given below.
Academic record of the previous degree/studies
The Master's Degree Programmes in Computer Science, i.e. the programme
on Networking and Services and the programme on Algorithms and Machine
Learning, were extremely popular this year. There were 369 applicants,
of which 61 were accepted. Thus, it was not possible to accept even all
very qualified and potential applicants. The quality of the previous
studies of an accepted applicant to one of these programmes had to be
85% of the maximum.
All applicants with a grade point average less than 77% were not even
considered for the program this year. Also applicants with English
skills lower than the required academic level were dropped in the
beginning.
From the remaining applicants the best 61 were accepted to the two
programmes in computer science at University of Helsinki. The selection
was based on the suitability and the grade point average of the
bachelor's degree, and the ranking of the university where the
bachelor's degree was taken. The motivation letter of the applicant was
also taken into account, if available.
