I have applied to Mathematics graduate program for Fall 2009. 13 universities at USA, 2 univs at Canada and 1 at Swiss (ETH Zurich)
My admission were declined to all of them but 2: Washington state university (PHD - without financial support) and Wyoming university (MA - tuition waived + insurance + 11300 per academic year)
I'm an undergraduate student in mathematics from Amirkabir univ. with GPA 14.59, a submitted article, a Bronze medal in IMS competitions. TOEFL iBT score 91 and 90 (I took it a second time because of low score in speaking section.) GRE subject in mathematics: 740 (which made no difference to my GPA, as I was applying to Canadian univs.)
I had 2 strong recommendations , I think they helped me a lot, and furthermore, the department told me that my statement of purpose was a positive point in my application, too.
However, WSU asked me if I will come with personal funds. they told that it may happens to assign me an assistantship up to the beginning of the fall semester.
Wyoming university is not a good university, but it has 3 faculty member in linear algebra group which is of my interest. After all I think it's better to study there, instead of staying in Iran and suffering from a harsh pain!!o
