The Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of Notre Dame will award approximately fifteen research fellowships to highly qualified graduate students in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering. The basic annual stipend for incoming students for 2005-06 is $19,000, although additional support is available in certain situations and the stipend levels are reviewed each year, renewable for up to five years. These fellowships also provide full university-paid tuition valued at $31,000.

For the 2006-2007 academic year, the 12-month stipend for entering students was $21,333. Several university and departmental fellowships that provide higher stipends are also available on a competitive basis.

All full-time graduate students receive a scholarship which covers all tuition costs. Financial assistance for living expenses is also typically provided for students admitted into the graduate program in the form of a stipend. Stipends are paid semimonthly and are awarded as research assistantships or research fellowships. As part of their degree requirements, all first and second year graduate students serve as teaching assistants.

During their first year, all incoming, full-time, degree-seeking graduate students receive full financial support from the Department, comprised of a combination of a tuition scholarship and a competitive stipend.
