دقیقاً کار همون the اینه که نشون بده اشاره به کل تحقیقات انجام شده داره. در غیر این صورت می‌شد a few of the investigations
معنی the اینه که اشاره به یک چیز مشخص و شناخته شده داره. این چیز اینجا "few scientific investigations of yawning" بوده. اینجا few نقش صفت برای investigation رو داره. نادیده بگیریدش می‌شه: the investigations. «بررسی‌های...». صفت رو اضافه کنید «بررسی‌های معدود...». (بررسی‌هایی که معدود بودند)

اگه the تبدیل بشه به a بدون تغییر دیگری:
a few investigations failed to show
اینجا هم همون کلیت برقراره، با این تفاوت که a اومده و نشون می‌ده که اشاره‌ی دقیق نیست: «بررسی‌های معدودی نتوانستند...»

میشه لطفا معنی جمله زیر رو هم بگید چی میشه؟ من مشکل روی چند تا کلمه اول جمله هست که پررنگ کردم : اصلا این چه جور عبارتیه؟!!

نزدیک‌ترین [نتیجه‌ای] که تا به حال تحقیقات در تأیید تئوری خستگی به دست آورده‌اند (رسیده‌اند) تأیید این بوده است که افراد بالغ بیشتر خمیازه می‌کشند.

با توجه به any می‌شه برای فهمیدن معنی این طوری دیدش: No research has come closer than this.

2. have been: "for one year": started in the past, continued till now. The main point is the effect on the present: they have 1 year of experience studying there.
3. is, 4. has : General fact
5. is working: This quarter: a specific time frame started in the past going on up to the future
6. has taken: He took the courses somewhere in the past, doesn't matter when exactly, the effect on present is what matters [If this quarter is interpreted as "in the beginning of this quarter" then it should be "took" since it is an exact time in the past, but it doesn't seem to me that is what it means]
7. doesn't have: throughout the quarter he doesn't have. Note that have (when it means possesssion) cannot be continuous
8. is trying: He hasn't quit his job yet, started trying, not finished yet, not sure when it's going to finish

The answer to all of them, except for 6 is No:




3,4:
For your answer to be correct, there should be an indication in the text that this is about the past state of the university. More importantly, is it possible for something that is "the oldest" at a time to become "not the oldest" at some point in the future? No. It helps you find out that this is a general fact about the university. The other one is general as well. Also, they are connected with "and", which helps you realize its just stating some general facts about the university.
5,8:
This tense is not an option here, you have to use present simple, continuous or perfect.
Those you mentioned are present perfect progressive.


But let's forget about that for a second. This tense is used about an action that was completed before some other past action. Is it the case here? No.




6:
This actually was my mistake. It is about the quarter we are in now, so "is taking" is correct. And it's the only correct answer
