من همین سوال رو از یکی از اساتیدی که به من پذیرش داده بود پرسیدم. گفتم شاید جوابی که داده برای سایر دوستان هم مفید باشه:
The average heavily depends on research area and personal commitment to the research. Two of my PhD students finished last year. One took 4 years, one took 5 years. The later one worked substantially outside the ... while pursuing the PhD, the former was focused on research.
Three years is IMHO very optimistic (and often will only have a limited publication record). Four years should be the goal.

I was just looking at some departmental web pages the other day and came across this page ... which shows that the expected completion time for a PhD is about 3 to 4 years, while the maximum time allowed is 6 years. I just wonder what is the average completion time of full-time PhD students (or students under your supervison)? What parameters might have an effect on this?
توجه تون رو به بخش آخر جواب که اشاره به تعداد publication ها داره جلب می کنم. مشخص می شه که تا زمانی که دانشجو از نظر تعداد مقالات به چاپ رسیده نظر استاد رو تامین نکنه احتمالاً امیدی به فارغ التحصیل شده نباید داشته باشه!
