I'm optimistic about this movement... please keep contacting your senators and P. Obama... I received a personal response (not a template email!) from Senator Frank R. Lautenberg, a senator from NJ. It sounds something's going to happen!
Dear Mr. xxxxxx:
Thank you for contacting me regarding U.S. policy concerning visas for Iranian students. I appreciate hearing from you on this important issue.
As you may know, the U.S. currently has a single entry visa policy for Iranian citizens who come to the U.S. on a student visa. If these students depart the U.S. during the course of their studies, they must qualify for a new student visa.
On May 28, 2010, the Senate Armed Services Committee approved the Fiscal Year 2011 National Defense Authorization Act. This legislation includes a provision requiring the President to submit a report to Congress on U.S. engagement with Iran. This report is required to analyze the feasibility and advisability of expanding the number and types of visas issued to Iranians.
This legislation must next be considered by the full Senate. Please be assured I will keep your views in mind should this legislation come before the full Senate for a vote. Thank you again for contacting me.
