Thanks for your inquiry. Our PhD admission review has two key steps involved. First is the general review of the applicant’s academic qualifications to see if they meet our standards for admission. The second step is that we require that at least one of our faculty members indicate that they are willing to serve as the advisor of the applicant if they are admitted for Ph.D. studies. We will not admit a new Ph.D. student unless at least one faculty member makes that commitment.

As a result there are times when qualified applicants are ultimately not admitted to our program because no faculty member is willing or able to commit to being their advisor and providing them with financial support for their PhD studies. That is the status of your application. To date we do not have a faculty member who has stepped forward and said they are prepared to work with you and to provide financial support. If a faculty member does come forward and make such a commitment, then there is a good chance you would be admitted for Ph.D. studies in our program. However, if that doesn’t happen, then we will not be able to admit you to our program. I have no idea as to a timetable for a final decision on your admission. My guess would be that if a faculty member has not come forward to advise and support you by late March or early April it is not going to occur.

I hope these comments at least help you see how our process works and the current status of your application. The reality is that we have way more Ph.D. applicants for this fall than we could ever admit and support. Our faculty have to decide what number of new Ph.D. students each person is wanting to take on (some have plenty of Ph.D. students already and are not taking on new ones) and then work their way through applications to find the ones they wish to make offers to.
