Project Title: Stability of the Irish Health System: Mathematical Modelling the Future Impact of Unprecedented Disruptions
Salary: €37,221 -- €44,266 p.a.
Duration:24 months
Position Summary:We invite applications for two Postdoctoral Positions to investigate stability and tipping points in the Irish health system. The Postdocs will be part of a cross-disciplinary research team including members of the Applied Mathematics Department at UCC, health industry experts from Laya Healthcare/AIG and medical consultants at Mercy University Hospital in Cork. The Postdocs will be based in the UCC Department of Applied Mathematics which provides a vibrant and friendly research environment with expertise including Dynamical Systems, Analysis of PDEs, Critical Transitions and Tipping Points, Network Dynamics, Machine Learning, Agent-based Modelling and Scientific Computing. The Postdocs will be required to spend part of the project working closely with health industry experts at the headquarters of Laya Healthcare in Cork.
The aim of the project is to develop a mathematical model to study long-term stability of the Irish health system, identify potential disruptions and tipping points, understand the role of the public and private health sectors, and consider applicability to other health systems beyond Ireland. The project will require a combination of mathematical techniques from dynamical systems, network theory, agent-based modelling, evolutionary game theory and scientific computing.
The project is funded by Enterprise Ireland Innovation Partnership Programme and industrial partner Laya Healthcare/AIG.
