Yes and No
Say, a 60 year old person, invested all his life and because of his long term time horizon, everything is in Growth portfolio, market has been great, growth is significant
but right before he retires, the market crashes and he loses 2/3 of his investments
It was long term, It was good market, but at the end it didn't make a difference
you can never predict the markets, and that's why you can never generalize like this that long term is safer and more profitable
That's where the advice of a professional comes in, they assess your situation and based on your goals and personal/financial situations, re-balance your portfolio
This is even more important with high risk investments, because it's not just the market that makes them risky, it's the nature of the asset
if iPhones start to catch fire tomorrow, no matter how good Apples's stock is, it is going to lose a lot of value and it is completely out of investor's control
