An official document is issued by the institution awarding the degree and has been certified by an authorized official of that institution.
- The documents should be sent directly from the institution to the Department of Computing Science, University of Alberta.
- If official transcripts cannot be obtained, applicants should supply certified true copies of official transcripts and certified statements confirming degrees awarded and academic standing achieved. Certification of transcripts and degrees must be effected by imprinting them with the official seal of the institution or by endorsing them by hand with the original signature of the responsible university officer (eg, Registrar, Admissions Officer, President). Photocopies that are not certified in this way are not acceptable for official admission purposes.
- Copies of transcripts certified by a notary public are only accepted in exceptional circumstances and never from a North American institution.
1- I have my transcripts in original language (Farsi) and I have translated them to English in a certified translation office, but they are not official, because it is relatively a long process and a considerable amount of money need to be paid to do this. But I will definitely provide official, stamped and signed transcripts after final admission. Are these unofficial transcripts acceptable for the initial application?
We would require your transcripts in both Farsi and English, we would require these documents in a sealed envelope from your university, however, you can collect the documents and mail them directly. I believe this answer also covers your next question .
2- You have mentioned that "Documents should come directly from the institution in sealed envelopes". My past university gives my transcripts and degree certificate in sealed envelopes, but refuses to mail them to your university. Can I send them by myself?
