We are looking for candidates for the award of 1 POST-DOC RESEARCH
FELLOWSHIP for 24 MONTHS at the DEPARTMENT OF MANAGEMENT
AND PRODUCTION ENGINEERING (DIGEP), POLITECNICO DI
TORINO for the execution of research activities within the project entitled
“Entrepreneurs as Scientists: When and How Start-ups benefit from A scientific
Approach to Decision-Making”.
The activities shall be carried out under the supervision of Prof. Emilio Paolucci
and Prof. Elisa Ughetto, in a non-subordinate relationship with no set working
hours.
The main place of work will be: DEPARTMENT OF MANAGEMENT AND
PRODUCTION ENGINEERING, POLITECNICO DI TORINO, Corso Duca
degli Abruzzi, 24, 10129, Torino, Italy.
Research work
The researcher will work on a sponsored PRIN project that Politecnico di
Torino is carrying out together with Bocconi University and Politecnico di Milano.
The project aims at studying the implications of a scientific approach to
entrepreneurial decision making. Entrepreneurs using a scientific approach select
information and make decisions about their business mirroring the approach used
by researchers when developing and testing theories in scientific research. The
research will focus on three questions: (1) What is the impact of a scientific
approach on the decision of an entrepreneur to select/develop a business idea? (2)
Which contingencies influence the adoption of the scientific approach? (3) What
are the effects of the scientific approach in later-stage entrepreneurial firms?
The research team will perform two Randomized Control Trials (RCTs) with
entrepreneurs from high-growth start-ups operating in technology sectors. The first
RCT targets about 500 early stage start-ups, and the second RCT targets about 150
later stage start-ups. In both RCTs, treated and control groups will receive the same
general training, with treated firms experiencing a greater focus on the scientific
approach.
Requirements for candidacy
Candidates should be in possession of the following qualification:
PhD in Management, Economics, Management Engineering or other
Social Sciences (e.g. Psychology, Sociology, Political Sciences)
Candidates must possess the admission requirements on the deadline for
submission of applications laid down in this call. Candidates who do not possess
the admission requirements will not be considered.
