Thank you for contacting me and for your interest in
working in the .... Lab for your doctoral studies. Your background looks like a strong fit with our ongoing research. To be frank, a number of people have approached me about graduate studies, and I only have a limited amount of funding for graduate students at this time. Some students will be finishing soon, and I am applying for more funding. In a year or so, I will be in a better position to take on more students.
That said, your materials are very interesting, and I would like to learn more about your hopes for graduate school. Just so you know, to be very honest, we have a very small TESOL program at the U of ...., and, based on the experiences of my students when searching for jobs, a degree in Psychology is not always well appreciated by hiring committees in Educational Psychology and Applied Linguistics/TESOL. You might therefore think hard about what program can best help you to advance your career goals. For example, the University of , University of ...., and ......University have strong programs that might be of interest to you. That said, you can always take courses at the U of .... in Ed Psych and particularly in TESOL to build your expertise and make connections in this area. As well, graduate students can take courses at other institutions through the "Western Deans Agreement".
Thank you again for your interest, Sanaz. I am cc'ing Joanna , who is the Department of Psychology's Graduate Advisor, and she can tell you more about the application process and the program in our Department.
With my best wishes for your future studies,
PS. Given Sanaz' clearly strong background in English and research, I would waive the GRE requirement, Joanna.
